It was 1998. Ken
Simmons was feeling fine. He had an active lifestyle that
included jogging and bike riding around Randolph, Massachusetts. Knowing Ken
was interested in health and wellness, a colleague at work
told him about CoQ10’s energy-boosting properties.
Ken began taking 150 mgs a day.
He felt a boost in
his energy level right away and told his wife about it. She
started taking it too. Ken’s
feeling of increased energy is not surprising. CoQ10
helps cells transform food into adenosine triphosphate
(ATP), the body’s fuel. The body uses that
fuel to run all of its vital processes, including muscle
contraction and digestion.
Several months after Ken
started taking CoQ10, he was diagnosed with bladder cancer.
During surgery, they found that the cancer was floating
and easy to remove. Ken’s
urologist, though he frankly admits it’s just a theory,
says he’s convinced Ken had “lucky cancer” because
of CoQ10.
After surgery, Ken continued using CoQ10
along with anticancer medications that included a series
of BCG treatments. Today,
Ken is active as the producer and host of a local history
TV series. He is cancer-free.
Ken’s current
supplement regimen includes 100 mgs of CoQ10 in 50 mgs
gelcaps twice daily, plus vitamin C, selenium, vitamin
E, folic acid and vitamin B6. “I
just came from working 10 hours straight, filming an historic
old house for one of our programs, and I feel terrific,” Ken,
72 years old, said when reached in late September in his
home just outside of Boston.
